I'm Back Blogging! Nicci's Dino 3rd Birthday Party

So many of you know after over 4 years, I decided it was time to close down my little business. I am definitely still sewing!!! Lots of gifts and of course lots for my gorgeous boys!
I am now not so tired and able to put a lot more time and effort into this full time mum gig. I am also thinking of doing up a few more tutorials for those of you who loved my Double Sided Bunting Tutorial and Easy Gathered Paper Bag Skirt Tutorial but for now I will share what I had been working on over the past few weeks...

My littlest man Dominic (Nicci) has just turned 3 so we celebrated with an awesome Dino Birthday Party with a few of our closest friends. Working on a tight budget meant making most of the decorations, props and food myself. I must say a huge thank you to all the bloggers who I got ideas off through Pinterest!!

So I noticed I forgot to take a photo of the whole table including backdrop after food was added to the table so here is the table set up before food with the scrap bunting and Niccisaurus banner!

The fun scrap bunting is so simple and adds colour and fun to the wall. Just scraps of fabric torn to a similar size, tied onto twine.

The Niccisaurus banner was printed from these awesome printables I found through Pinterest then I printed the dino heads and cut to the same size as the letter banner flags I had printed. After printing I used double sided sticky tape to put them onto coloured card to match the theme colours and cut evenly around each one. This was time consuming but looked even better then I'd hoped!

Table once food was added... I made little signs to separate sections on the table which I made on the good old Photoshop, done with a free dinosaur brush which I found thanks to Google though unfortunately I can't find it again to link you do it!

We had a Herbivore Grazing Ground which included vege sticks in hommus and fruit salad in a cup.

The Carnivore Feeding Ground which had dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets. We had also planned avocado and ham dino shaped open sandwiches though we couldn't get the right cutter in time and the table was full without so we gave them a miss.

The Fossil Hunt section had dino fossil footprint cookies which I first saw on pinterest but also was in a dino cookie book I got for the little man for his birthday. We also had dino shaped cookies as well as jelly's done in the theme colours with dino lollies in the center for them to dig out like little paleontologists. The white "dino" bones at the front my little I used this recipe. I also added a little bit of vanilla essence for extra flavour.

The Dino Watering Hole was just iced water with lemon and lime slices and mint sprigs.
Up the back we had cup cakes with "grass" icing as dinosaur nests with yummy dinosaur eggs on top!

My handsome little paleontologist boy wearing a vintage safari suit with a tee appliqued by me under.

For the party hats I bought cute little striped hats then added the spikes myself. I found it in a few places when searching Google and Pinterest for dinosaur parties. The way I did it was just cut the spikes from card and used a hot glue gun to attach them. So simple but so so cute!

For activities at the party we printed dino colouring in printables found here and supplied crayons. My little men and I also made plaster dinosaurs for painting on the day. The 2 activities got mixed together with some of the pictures being painted and some of the plaster dinosaurs being coloured. In the end lots of fun was had!

We also did pass the parcel and had planned to do dinosaur egg and spoon races but the kids were all playing so nicely we skipped that one... We had awesome small potatoes to use as dinosaur eggs and disposable wooden spoons.

Volcano cake idea came from here. I used brown sugar for the "sand" and added little dinosaur toys around to make a cool little dinosaur scene.

One very excited, happy little man!! Here you can kind of see the super dino tee I made him for his birthday mixing his 2 favourite things at the moment, dinosaurs and super heroes.

I had set up a corner for photo taking with some dinosaur and paleontologist props, some bought, some made. This dinosaur tail I made in the theme colours I made using this tutorial.

One well loved food table! By the end even our big blow up dinosaur looked like he was passed out on the side of the table :P

A tired Mummy and my awesome helper/husband!! Without him allowing me to boss him around, the day would have been nowhere near as awesome.
